Store Forced to DUMP $35,000 of Stock After Woman Purposely Coughs on Shelves

(PatriotHeadline.Com)- During a time of national crisis, Americans are coming together and helping one another out. That is, most Americans. Some people don’t seem to care that the coronavirus pandemic is putting millions of people out of work and seem to think it’s funny to go out and risk spreading the virus to other people.

On Wednesday, a woman reportedly chose to “prank” a Gerrity’s supermarket in Hanover Township, Pennsylvania, by coughing over huge quantities of product on shelves. The mean-spirited act, according to a social media post, cost the supermarket $35,000 in products that needed to be disposed of.

Joe Fasula, the co-owner of the supermarket, took to Facebook to explain what happened.

“Today was a very challenging day,” he wrote. “At 2:20 PM today, I got a call from our Hanover Township store. The manager informed me that a woman, who the police know to be a chronic problem in the community, came in to the store and proceeded to purposely cough on our fresh produce, and a small section of our bakery, meat case, and grocery.”

Fasula explained how he believed it was likely the woman considered it a “twisted prank” and that, “out of an abundance of caution” the store was forced to dispose of all of the product that she came into contact with. The store also began an extensive cleaning operation to ensure that customers were safe.

“Although we have not yet quantified the total loss, we estimate the value to be well over $35,000,” he said. “We are checking to see if our insurance company will cover it, but even if they do, our rates will surely go up next year. I am also absolutely sick to my stomach about the loss of food. While it is always a shame when food is wasted, in these times when so many people are worried about the security of our food supply, it is even more disturbing.”

What kind of sick person does something like this to a business that provides essential goods and food to people during the time of a global pandemic?

Fasula ended the Facebook post by thanking his team for taking the issue seriously and making responsible decisions…and for staying late to clean up the mess.
