(PatriotHeadline.com)- A sports journalist from News 12 Connecticut was fired on Wednesday after he racially abused Republican Senator Tim Scott. Fred Gerteiny referred to the Black Republican senator for South Carolina as an “Uncle Tom” in a Tweet that has since been deleted.
Gerteiny, who is white, responded to a Tweet by The Hill, which referenced Scott’s comments about how President Donald Trump referred to the Proud Boys during the first debate between him and former Vice President Joe Biden.
Referring to Trump’s “stand back and stand by” comment, Scott said the president “misspoke” and should clarify it.
In response, Gerteiny said, “Thanks Uncle Tom.”
The Tweet might have been deleted, but Washington Examiner reported Siraj Hashmi screenshotted the exchange.
deleted, but the List comes for all, @FredGerteiny.

News 12 confirmed that Gerteiny had been fired on Wednesday in an official statement, describing the comment as “racially insensitive.”
“After reviewing the incident, the network released sports reporter, Fred Gerteiny, as a result of a racially insensitive comment,” the statement reads. “News 12 Networks has a zero tolerance policy for racism or improper conduct based on race, and prides itself on being an objective and unbiased multi-platform news company.”
Gerteiny also apologized on Twitter for the comment.
“Earlier today, I tweeted a racially insensitive comment, when I referred to @SenatorTImScott as an ‘Uncle Tom.’ I apologize to the Senator, my colleagues @News12CT, and anyone else I may have offended with this deeply offensive tweet,” he said.
Funny how the anti-Republican lot are so quick to say racist things when the person they’re targeting isn’t a Democrat, isn’t it?
Gerteiny’s account no longer appears to exist. Heading to the @FredGerteiny Twitter page now presents you with the message, “This account doesn’t exist.”
Perhaps Gerteiny hoped the tweet would suffice for him to keep his job, but chose to delete it (along with his account) once he was fired anyway.
For a journalist to use language like this is particularly shocking, given that Scott has been at the receiving end of racist abuse from Democrats for some time now. Even CNN reported how Scott received threatening voicemails that called him an “Uncle Tom” for representing the Republican Party.
