(PatriotHeadline.com)- Dr. Anthony Fauci, the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases as well as the most prominent member of the White House Coronavirus Task Force, floated the possibility of Americans still being required to wear masks and socially distance well into 2022…even when a vaccine has been developed.
During a discussion with staff and students of Philadelphia’s Thomas Jefferson University, Fauci said that even with a vaccine it would take time to develop herd immunity to the virus and that people may not be able to return to their normal life even years after the initial outbreak of the virus. Fauci made the controversial comments during a Zoom discussion which was reported on by The Philadelphia Inquirer.
“It’s not going to be the way it was with polio and measles, where you get a vaccine, case closed, it’s done,” Fauci explained. “It’s going to be public-health measures that linger for months and months.”
Or years, it turns out.
“You’re not going to have a profound degree of herd immunity for a considerable period of time, maybe toward the end of 2021, into 2022,” Fauci argued, in a crushing blow for anybody hoping that normality would return sometime soon.
If Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden is elected in November, it would likely mean that Fauci’s recommendations would never be challenged, and any indication from Fauci that the economy should be shut down again, Biden has indicated that he would do it.
Biden: “Every single American should be wearing a mask when they’re outside, for the next three months, at a minimum.”

However, Fauci did offer some hope in the way of avoiding a lockdown.
“You can do this without shutting down the country,” he said. “There’s a misunderstanding…you can cautiously and prudently continue to try to open up the country and open the economy.”
It could mean that, as the economy reopens, Fauci and others will continue to recommend to governors and mayors to enforce mask mandates where possible
